Based in Aleppo, the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) lost its seed collection during the war and was forced into exile. Relocated to Lebanon, it drew on stocks stored at the Global Seed Vault in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard to duplicate its seeds.
