COMBATING DISCRIMINATION, VIOLENCE, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL, SEXIST, AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT

CODE OF CONDUCT

It is the responsibility of everyone individually – but also of the community as a whole – to ensure the wellbeing of all, and that no act of violence or discrimination is perpetrated against anyone.

We are aware that power relations are the result of social dynamics and want to make Cinéma du réel a social space, in line with its artistic vision and values: freedom of expression, true equality between people, and mutual respect. It is Cinéma du réel’s aim to be a festival free from abuse of any kind, whether that be discrimination, violence, or psychological, sexist or sexual harassment. The purpose of the festival is to highlight works of cinema and build community, not to accentuate power relations and accord privileges to certain individuals.

Therefore, Cinéma du réel will not tolerate any disrespectful, violent, or hateful behaviour or comments toward anyone based on their gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, or cultural, social, ethnic, or religious background, whether they be audience members, invited professionals, volunteers, partners, or festival workers.

We remind those participating in Cinéma du réel, whether they be spectators, guests, jurors, employees, collaborators, volunteers, or service providers, that the following acts are prohibited by law and therefore cannot be tolerated:

  • intimidation, bullying, or violence in any form;
  • inappropriate physical contact;
  • sexist or sexual remarks;
  • unsolicited photographs or video recordings;
  • harassment in any form
  • dangerous or threatening behaviour

If you are a victim of harassment, discrimination, or any other unacceptable behaviour, or if you witness it, please contact the festival staff on site, or the following people:

If your own behaviour offends others, be prepared to acknowledge this and change your conduct.

The entire festival team, in accordance with the code of conduct, is responsible for immediately informing the organisers of any type of violence that occurs across festival sites.

The festival is committed to listening to, protecting and supporting anyone who reports being a victim of acts that violate this code.

All those participating in Cinéma du réel are informed that simply participating in or attending the festival implies full and complete acceptance of this code of good conduct.
