Songs of exile

Dado Amaral

A multidisciplinary artist, born in Rio de Janeiro. Trained in theater, he worked as an actor and assistant director before moving into audiovisual production. He wrote and directed several short films, including two documentaries about the Prophet Gentileza. In the 1990s, he created the collective Boato, with which he worked for a decade, blending the languages of poetry, performance, music, and audiovisual media, and released the album Abracadabra with Warner Brazil. Regarding the group’s work, he directed Boato: uma autodefinitude, an experimental short film that became a cult movie in Brazil. He has published two collections of poetry and one of short stories. In 2015, after a one-year scholarship in France, he settled in Paris, where he founded La Centrale 22, a space for artistic exchange and experimentation.
