Mario Schifano was the main Italian Pop artist, the dark star of the 1960s in Rome. He made some experimental films, too: Umano non umano is his masterpiece and one of the key works of the late 1960s.It is a chaotic and visually explosive collage: in a lacunar structure, we meet counterculture heroes (Mick Jagger) and demonstrating students, maîtres à penser (Alberto Moravia) and striking workers, great poets (Sandro Penna) and melancholic actors (Carmelo Bene).
