_x000D_ ERIE consists of a series of single take, black and white, 16mm sequences filmed in and around communities near Lake Erie, including Buffalo, Cleveland, Mansfield, Ohio and Niagara Falls. The scenes relate to Black migration from the American South to the North, contemporary conditions, current realities impacting workers and factories in the automobile industry, folks concentrating on the task at hand, theater and famous art objects. concentrating on the task at hand, theater and famous art objects._x000D_ _x000D_ As with Everson's previous three features (Spicebush, 2005; Cinnamon, 2006; The Golden Age of Fish, 2008), the subject matter is the gestures or tasks caused by certain conditions in the lives of working class African Americans and other people of African descent. The conditions are usually physical, social-economic circumstances or weather. The film favors a strategy that abstracts everyday actions and statements into both concrete and formalized concerns._x000D_ _x000D_ The first sequence of the film, part of a extended short entitled "American Motor Company" was produced as part of the filmmakers' 2009/10 residency at Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center in Buffalo, New York. Some of the personages featured in the film are actors, dancers, singers and performers from the local Buffalo community. Others are family members in Ohio. The audience at any given screening is also an integral component of the film, as the rhythm of observation meshes with the routine of concentration and movement experienced in each shot._x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ Billboard installers; a seated girl seemingly hypnotized by a candle flame; fencers; dancers; travelers and conversationalists. Migration and migratory habits, gestures, rhythms of work, conditions, concentration, labor and leisure set in and around towns and folks in communities near Lake Erie._x000D_


Kevin Jerome Everson est né en 1965 à Mansfield, dans l’Ohio. Depuis les années 1980, il a réalisé de nombreux courts métrages et neuf longs, pour la plupart basés sur la captation ou la mise en scène des gestes, attitudes et postures de la classe ouvrière noire américaine.
