A fiction and documentary filmmaker, Rosine Mbakam graduated from the Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle et des Techniques de Diffusion (INSAS) in 2012. She grew up in Cameroon and learned camerawork, editing and filmmaking. She first made a short fiction film, Tu seras mon allié, which won awards in several international festivals. In 2017, she made Les Deux visages d’une femme bamileke, her first feature-length documentary, which was screened in over sixty festivals (IFFR Rotterdam, Fespaco…). Her next film, Chez jolie coiffure, drew an even bigger audience (Dok Leipzig, True/False, AFI Fest Los-Angeles, Fespaco…). Les Prières de Delphine won the Young Jury Award at Cinéma du réel in 2021.
She launched Caravane Cinéma, which organises open-air screenings to ensure the exhibition of African films in poor neighbourhoods. She also teaches at KASK in Ghent (Belgium).
An van. Dienderen works at the intersection between documentary, anthropology and visual arts. She graduated in audiovisual arts (Sint-Lukas, Brussels), obtained a PhD in Comparative Cultural Sciences (Ghent University), and was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley. She made several documentaries screened worldwide, awarded with (inter)national prizes. Films include Visitors of the Night (1998), Site (2000), Tu ne verras pas Verapaz (2002), The Ephemerist (2005) Patrasche, a Dog of Flanders – Made in Japan (2008), Cherry Blossoms (2012), Letter Home (2015), Lili (2015).
Born in Burkina Faso in 1978, Eléonore Yaméogo turned with determination to a passion that is difficult for a woman to access in Africa: filmmaking. She first trained on numerous shoots, before entering the Institut Supérieur de l’Image et du Son (ISIS) in Burkina-Faso, where she obtained her BTS in audiovisual. She directed in 2019 Le Cimetière des éléphants (Best Documentary Film Award in the International category at Festicab in 2019)
