As it is the case every year, Cinéma du réel extends its screenings to its partner's theaters with the Hors les Murs programme. From March, the 27th to June, the 2nd, 35 screenings are scheduled among the competing films.
Hors les murs programme
Moreover, for the first time, Cinéma du réel extends its action to prison. In collaboration with the "Service pénitentiaire d'insertion et de probation" of the Val-de-Marne, two projects will be led in the penitentiary in Fresnes: a selection of the 2012 edition films will be broadcast on the internal video channel and two films will be screened, followed by a Q/A with the filmmaker.
Alongside the competitive sections of the festival, Cinéma du réel offers several thematic sections.

- Documentaire sur grand écran celebrates its 20th anniversary, tribute to Simone Vannier
Created in 1992, Documentaire sur grand écran supports and promotes the distribution of documentary cinema. Simone Vannier who chaired Documentaire sur grand écran from 1992 to 2007, passed away in 2010. She was the cornerstone of the organization. Cinéma du réel pays a tribute to her, by showing two films, representative of her commitment.

- Programming Workshop
Cinéma du réel together with the Acrif and the Short film agency aim to increase young public awareness on programming film. From a corpus of about 20 shorts (Barres by Luc moullet, Clean Time by Didier Nion...) the students of IFA restauration in Saint Gratien, coached by a cinema critic Arnaud Hee, defined a film programme, that will be screened during the festival.

Panic ! cinema in association with Cinéma du réel explore "Mondo Films", a documentary trend of the 1960's.

- 20th anniversary of Acid
Founded by filmmakers 20 years ago, the Acid supports independant films via a direct contact with distributors and cinema owners. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the assosiation, Cinéma du réel offers a selection of films supported by the Acid, from its creation to nowadays.
