À propos…

Cinema du Reel, wich has been hosted by the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information and the Centre Pompidou since 1979, is the major event for international documentary cinema.

Paying attention to experimentations, the Festival is aware of genres and cinematographic forms diversity. It is one of the rare festival which focuses on genre patrimony and memory, and which make them converse at the same time with the contemporary creation.

Discoverer of young talents, Cinema du Réel is just as attentive to show the later work as the older one from confirmed filmmaker. The festival has contributed to reveal a lot of filmmakers on the international scene, which are today well-known, as Anand Patwardhan, Dieudo Hamadi, Gianfranco Rosi or Claire Simon. In so doing, Cinema du Réel promotes a decompartmentalised and open approach, for any subject, any genre, any duration, any support or any form.

In addition to selected films in the different sections, the festival proposes also a lot of appointments dedicated to the public (special screenings, meetings, masterclass…) and to the professionals (ParisDOC).

In fine, Cinema du Réel’s films travel during the whole year thanks to a lot of outdoors screenings.
